The Health and Community Services Workforce Council has been contracted by Disability Services Queensland to auspice the Disability Sector Training Fund. (DSTF) The DSTF has moved from a submission-based fund to a community engagement model, focusing on identifying and meeting sector and local training and capacity building requirements at a regional level.
The DSTF target group includes unpaid and paid staff of services receiving DSQ Funds, and Parents and Carers of people with a disability.
Coalitions of local people from the target group meet regularly in each of
the 10 DSQ regions to decide training and capacity building priorities for their region based on feedback
from their networks. A Workforce Council Project Officer ensures that the decisions
made by the coalitions are actioned.
The DSTF model is a Community Engagement Model that supports the development of localised infrastructures
& process as tools for community capacity building. The basic principles the project supports are:
