2010 Queensland Training Award winners

The Workforce Council extends its congratulations to the winners of the 2010 Queensland Training Awards.

 

The Health and Community Services Industries were well-represented at the State Finals on Friday 10 September, with three of the 15 state-level awards going to members.

 

Now in their 49^th year, the Queensland Training Awards recognise and reward the outstanding achievements of individuals and organisations within the vocational education and training sector who strive for excellence, best practice and innovation.

 

Amongst this year's winners were:

 

• Skilling for the Future Award - My Other Mum Training College

For an outstanding Queensland school, non-school organisation or community partnership that has developed and implemented alternative training and education opportunities for school students.

 

• Small Employer of the Year - Help Enterprises

For outstanding achievement in the area of vocational education and training by a Queensland business with fewer than 20 staff.

 

• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year - Paula Dean, Brisbane North Institute of TAFE (Diploma of Community Welfare)

For outstanding achievement by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student within the Queensland vocational education and training sector.

 

A further four finalists were drawn from the Health and Community Services industries:

 

• Large Training Provider of the Year - Sunshine Coast Institute of TAFE 

 

• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year - Melanie Pope, Mission Australia (Certificate III in Aged Care)

 

• Vocational Student of the Year - Royden Fagan, Bremer Institute of TAFE (Certificate IV in Youth Work, Certificate IV in Community Services, Diploma of Community Welfare, Diploma of Youth Work and Diploma of Community Services Management)

 

• Bob Marshman Trainee of the Year - Amber Muller, Axiom College (Certificate III in Business Administration)
