Australia’s first National Skills Week, which will take place 1 – 8 October.
National Skills Week is a new initiative which seeks to raise public awareness of practical and vocational learning opportunities, how they compares with and compliment academic learning, and the contribution it makes to the nation’s economy.
In Queensland, National Skills Week will be launched by the Minister for Employment, Skills and Mining, The Honourable Stirling Hinchliffe MP at an official event in Brisbane’s Queen Street Mall on Tuesday 4 October.
The launch event will include a range of hands-on trade skill exhibits, providing the public with an opportunity to speak to with industry and training representatives about pathways to a skilled career.
Australia’s National Skills Week coincides with the International WorldSkills Competition (also known as the Skills Olympics), which take place in London 5 - 8 October. The competition is attended by teams from over 50 nations, and will include a group of 30 elite skilled Australians from areas spanning fashion technology to landscaping.
