NAIDOC Week 2011

NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) Week will be celebrated throughout the week of the 3-10 July.

The annual event (commemorated during the first full week of July), celebrates the history and culture of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It is also an opportunity to acknowledge the achievements of Indigenous Australians in all areas of life.

The theme for this year's NAIDOC Week is "Change: The Next Step is Ours".

Originally the event was named NADOC Week, however during the early 90’s the committee grew to recognise the Torres Strait Islander people and their culture.

Australians from all cultures and backgrounds are encouraged to participate in the many NAIDOC activities taking place throughout the country. For information about NAIDOC activities in your area visit the NAIDOC website.

To celebrate NAIDOC Week, the Workforce Council will once again host a stall at the NAIDOC- Musgrave Park Family Fun Day celebrations in South Brisbane on July 8 from 9am-5pm. This year’s stall will include an opportunity to participate in various art projects, a display from the “Our People” photo exhibition, career information and more.

WHERE: Musgrave Park, Corner of Cordelia and Russell Street, South Brisbane

COST: Donation upon entry
