Child Protection Week 2011

This year Child Protection Week in Queensland will take place from September 4 to 10.

‘Play Your Part to Keep Children Safe’ is the theme for this year. Child Protection Week focuses on the value of children and confronting the issues of child abuse and neglect.

The objectives of Child Protection Week are:

  • Raise the profile of all issues connected with child protection, including child abuse prevention, treatment, research, education, service provision and support for children, young people and families;
  • Create a statewide umbrella focus for child protection allowing government and non-government agencies to present a cooperative and coordinated community oriented campaign;
  • Support and value professionals and volunteer child protection workers by providing 'best practice' training and a forum to exchange ideas and information;
  • Offer a framework to recognise advances in the field, and thereby contribute to better outcomes for all children and young people, especially those who have been harmed or are at risk of harm.

Following the state launch of the event week, winners of the annual Queensland Child Protection Awards will be announced at Parliament House in Brisbane. The awards provide an opportunity to publicly acknowledge the efforts, commitment and unreserved energy of many people who make a significant contribution to our community to prevent child harm and neglect.

In Queensland Child Protection Week is coordinated by the Child Protection Week Committee which is comprised of representatives from government and non-government agencies concerned with child protection issues, under the auspicing body of ACT for Kids.
