Working in partnership with key stakeholders in the Health and Community Services Industry in the Surat Basin will be essential for this project.

Currently, workforce planning is generally undertaken within agencies and occasionally across agencies within specific sectors. This project recognises that, as a region, the Surat Basin has shared issues and significant challenges to meet if it is to have enough people with the right skills to deliver integrated, coordinated health and community services to meet community needs.

This project aims to create a workforce plan that will foster partnerships, excellence and innovation within the Health and Community Services Industry within the Surat Basin.

This project aims to:

• Confirm a shared understanding of the common workforce issues for health and community services in the Surat Basin region

• Produce an agreed and industry-lead workforce plan for the region

• Explore and develop partnership strategies to address known barriers

The key to this project is that health and community services stakeholders, across government, nongovernment and general practice are included in the development of the plan.

The development of the plan will include the identification of shared, priority workforce issues for the Surat Basin, a review of existing literature and available data to support the plan and its recommendations, and ongoing engagement with key industry stakeholders.

The workforce plan is expected to be endorsed by key stakeholders in the Health and Community Services Industries by the completion of the plan in December 2011.
