Disability Action Week 2011

‘Empower, enable, everybody’ is the theme for this year’s Disability Action Week which will be celebrated from 18 to 24 September.

Disability Action Week is an opportunity for the community to come together to shine a spotlight on social inclusion and access issues, and to celebrate the achievements and contributions of people with a disability.

Disability touches the lives of almost all Queenslanders, with one in five living with a disability of some kind, and many others sharing the experiences of friends, family, schoolmates, colleagues and members of the community.

The statewide launch of Disability Action Week will take place on Tuesday 20 September at the All Abilities Playground in Capalaba. Throughout the week Queenslanders will have the opportunity to participate in range of events; for details visit the Disability Action Week events page.

Disability Action Week seeks to encourage positive attitudes and improve access to the wider community as well as celebrate the achievements and contributions of people with a disability. With this in mind the Disability Action Week Awards will be presented at the Cairns Convention and Exhibition Centre on Thursday 22 September. For more information visit the Disability Action Week Awards website.
