How will the strategy work?
The project commenced with an environmental scan, and engagement with sector stakeholders on current workforce issues and opportunities. The findings of the scan informed outcomes-based dialogue at a Workforce Summit hosted in September 2010, attended by over 50 leaders in the Sector.
A number of sector-led initiatives emerged, aligned to four workforce outcomes:
• Sector-wide consensus on a defined ethos for the Sector, and support for the development of visionary leaders
• Assessment of the knowledge and skills required to competently practice in the workforce roles while recognising the high level of task range, expertise and autonomy required, and subsequent action to address these in a holistic, strategic manner
• The Sector is an attractive career option, supports a culture of professional development, and retains a dedicated and experienced workforce
• The Sector is acknowledged as a leader and partner in the delivery of recovery-focused services.
What is the timeframe?
A Workforce Consultant commenced a two-year appointment in April 2010 to work alongside the sector, and facilitate the development and implementation of the workforce action plan. One of the key goals is to establish mechanisms to support continuation of collaborative workforce action beyond the funding period. This will enable ongoing implementation of the workforce action plan beyond the life of funding, under the strategic guidance of the Workforce Leaders Group.
